Background
The concept of ‘learning’ or ‘teaching’ is undergoing sweeping changes, through application of various information technology- based innovations. Especially during last few years, Electronic learning (E-Learning) has started redefining the very process of learning. In the present educational system, there is a trend to move towards blended learning services, where computer-based activities are integrated with practical or classroom-based scenarios.
These educational innovation systems can improve the quality of learning and broaden the user-base who can afford better educational resource material. It is essential to build the capacity in educational organizations of NARS on using the innovative methods in e-learning which can improve the learning methods and styles. This can bring change in learning process for an educational organization or ensure a better knowledge management practices for adoption. With this backdrop, a short course is designed with the following objectives.
Objectives
Ø To sensitize participants on the concept of e-learning and its practice
Ø To introduce innovative e-learning methodologies in NARS educational system
Ø To provide an insight into different methods of teaching and learning and impart practical training on effective teaching using e-media
Ø To inculcate the practice of Web based Learning Management using open source methodologies
Course content
E-learning environments & systems, Content Management Standards, learning objects, Web based content sharing methodologies, E-teaching techniques, Learning management systems- concepts and practice, online interactive techniques, online evaluation tools and techniques, E-content development techniques using multimedia and web-based tools
Pedagogy
The pedagogy consists of a blend of lectures, demos, interactive sessions in a participatory mode, and extensive hands-on experiences.
Duration
The duration is 10 days i.e., from September 11 to 20, 2012. Participants are expected to arrive latest by September 10 evening, and can leave NAARM on September 20 after 5 PM.
Eligibility
Participation is restricted to those in the rank of Assistant Professor and above from Agricultural (including Veterinary / Horticultural / Fisheries / Forestry /Agricultural Engineering/ Home Science / Dairy science and Technology etc.) Universities, Central Agricultural Universities, Central Universities with faculty of Agriculture and Scientists in equivalent cadres from ICAR Deemed Universities. The number of participants for the programme will be limited to 25.
Nominations
Vice-Chancellors of Agricultural Universities, CAU, CUs with faculty of Agriculture and Directors of ICAR Deemed Universities may nominate participants who could be considered for selection. The last date for receiving the nomination is 10 August, 2012. The selected candidates will be intimated by 16 August, 2012 by e-mail.
Registration
Registration fee of Rs 50/- (Rupees Fifty only) per participant is fixed as per ICAR guidelines, which should be sent through Postal Order (drawn in favour of ICAR Unit, NAARM payable at Hyderabad), along with the enclosed application form completed in all respects to any of the following addresses

TA and DA
Participants will be paid to and fro fare for journey by rail or bus or other means of transport in vogue, for travel by the shortest route. The payment will be made as per their entitled class of travel but restricted to the maximum of AC II tier train fare.
It may be noted that if any participant chooses to travel by Air, their claim shall be restricted to AC II tier train fare only, provided they travel by Air India/ Indian Airlines only and with the deal code of ICAR (D095). Participants are required to produce a Photocopy of the rail / bus / air ticket for reimbursing the travel expenditure. In lieu of incidental charges, DA will be reimbursed as per ICAR rules.
Board and lodging
Participants will be provided free food and accommodation in the halls of residence. Local participants will be provided lunch and inter-sessions tea only.
Travel
Hyderabad is well connected by air, rail and road from all parts of the country. One can reach NAARM located in Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University campus, Rajendranagar by city bus route No 95 A from Kothi to Agricultural college bus stop or 94H or 94R to Rajendranagar bus stop which are 1.5 kms from the Academy or by 95R which plies limited trips from Koti to Rajendranagar via NAARM Campus. One can also reach the Academy by taxi / Auto. Participants are advised to make their return reservations well in advance at their end, as it will be difficult to get the same after they reach NAARM.
