Two day Course On Efficient Product Design for Manufacture & Assembly
Organized by
AU FRG INSTITUTE FOR CAD/CAM
Dept of Mechanical Engineering
ANNA UNIVERSITY, CHENNAI.
Date: 1 & 2 April, 2016
ABOUT THE COURSE
Design is the first step in manufacturing, where most of the crucial decisions are made which may affect the final cost of the product. Since the mid-sixties, analysis
techniques have been researched and developed. As a result of this research, in 1980, DFMA® techniques were made available to help engineers create products
that are efficient to manufacture and assemble. DFMA Methodology is developed by Dr. Geoffrey Boothroyd & Dr. Peter Dewhurst the pioneer of DFMA® principles.
R&D engineers today are constrained to produce sleek designs that are lean, robust, simple to assemble and easy to manufacture. To remain competitive, they are facing the need to make decisions to optimize/economize the design of equipment be it, Mechanical, Electrical or Electronic. Product Design Review can
be done using DFMA® software to shorten the overall design to manufacture cycle time. Early Manufacturing Analysis tools help one to understand the functionalities of various inter-dependent parts /components of the design so that some can be eliminated or combined with other parts.
