Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) and The Banyan Academy of Leadership in Mental Health (BALM) along with leading national and international experts in mental health have developed a M.A. Social Work in Public Mental Health to produce highly trained and motivated professionals to
work with National District Mental Health Programmes, and other non governmental and private initiatives in the country.
Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) will offer the M. A. degree programme from (i) CUTN, Tiruvarur, Tamilnadu; (ii) Mental Health Action Trust (MHAT), Kerala.This two year – four semesters – programme involves classroom teaching and internship in each of the four semesters in The Banyan, Chennai and other mental health care services across the country. Each centre will admit 15 students each for the 2012-13 academic year.
The students successfully completing the post-graduate degree will find employment with National District Mental Health Programmes, Community Mental Health Programmes, and with nongovernmental and private initiatives in the country. CUTN and TISS invite applications from Indian nationals for the programme and indicate their choice of location: 1. CUTN, Tiruvarur, Tamil Nadu; 2. MHAT, Calicut, Kerala. TISS and CUTN are centrally funded institutions and follow reservation mandated by the Government of India: SC –
15%, ST – 7.5%, OBC (non-creamy layer) – 27%. Persons With Disability can avail 3% supernumerary seats. Government of India and State Government scholarships / assistantships will be available to SC/ST/OBC and PWD candidates. Those who have completed graduate programme in Arts and Humanities, Science, Social Sciences, Medicine, Nursing and allied fields; engineering and technology, agriculture and other disciplines can apply.
The medical students should have completed all requirements including internship by 15thSeptember 2012.
